Westfield High School’s Art teacher Karen West and Pre-AP Art students Nick Duncan and Liz
Baker attended Art All-State interviews on March 9th at West Springfield High School.
Although no date yet has been set, the nominees will hear back from the panel of judges by the
beginning of May. The Art All-State event will take place June 8th-9th at UMASS Dartmouth.

Art All-State is a program that seeks young artist with talents in a variety of visual arts. For the
past 30 years UMASS Dartmouth has held this program for 145 high school juniors across the
state to come together and form a collaborative art installation.

Only two students per school can be nominated to interview for a chance to take part in Art All-
State based on four pieces of artwork. This year WHS’ Nicholas Duncan and Elizabeth Baker
were selected by Mrs. West to represent our school.

Neither student had heard about the event until this year but we’re both honored to be nominated.
Both students have very unique styles. Both students believe that their interviews went well and
Mrs. West states “both (students) have a very good chance” at being accepted even though it is
rare that both students from one district get accepted attend the event.
