FBLA Receives Generous Contribution from Westfield Bank

One of the newest clubs at our school is the Westfield High Chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). This organization focuses on strengthening the bond between education and local businesses and last month a generous donation from Westfield Bank was the first big step in doing just that for the chapter.

One of the biggest events in FBLA clubs across the nation is the state conference that chapters statewide are invited to attend. This state conference includes competition in business-related areas such as accounting, public speaking, job interview, and digital media creation. The Westfield High chapter needed around $1,200 to meet the cost of admissions for roughly 15 of its members.

This goal was met thanks to a $1,000 contribution from Westfield Bank. The advisors, Mrs. Stratton and Ms. Sawyer, as well as the officers of Westfield High FBLA, President Morgan Zabielski (‘18), Vice President Mason St. Pierre (‘18), Secretary Cameron Davignon (‘19), and Treasurer Gabby O’Dea (‘19), met with Westfield Bank CEO and President Mr. James C. Hagan on Thursday, February 8.

“We were able to speak with Mr. Hagan about our business classes and programs here at Westfield High and we got to see a glimpse of what his job is all about,” says O’Dea.

Westfield Bank frequently gives back to the community, for instance sponsoring sports teams and many different fundraising events in the area. “Growing up in Westfield, I know how much Westfield Bank contributes to members of the community, and for Mr. Hagan and the bank to give so much more than any of us ever thought has just left us speechless– we’re so grateful,” says St. Pierre.

Although the goal for the state conference has been met largely in part due to Westfield Bank, the club still has future fundraisers planned. “The cost for the state conference is covered, but we are looking further ahead and starting to save up for the national conference,” says Davignon. “This would be another first for Westfield High and a great experience for all of our members.”

FBLA will be hosting a “Family FUNraising Night” at Friendly’s on 21 Southampton Road Thursday, March 1, as well as bake sales and pizza sales, those dates to be announced.
